The TCMS "trim for print" feature is nice for stories that need to lose an inch or two for print, but can run in-full online. But the opposite would be nice, too.

This would alleviate some problems, starting with pesky date issues. If print wants to run "today," they could, while online the date would remain "Wednesday" or "Feb. 17" or whatever style was desired. ("Today" in print is often not "today" online — the publication date online is generally a day earlier.)

This also would help when trims made for print cut parts of sentences or paragraphs. It's easy to lose or move the first reference to a person or place when trimming content for print. This feature would allow the complete sentence or paragraph to stay online, and a print-only version of the sentence or paragraph to be written for print.

I agree Erica. I already have a feature request in for it (as part of Ticket # 591489).

Earlier this month Jon Winters said he liked the idea and would put in the official feature request internally.

We've been talking to Town News folks about this feature since November. I figured this extra push couldn't hurt. Good to know it's part of someone else's wish list and tickets too!

We're going to be adding Total CMS in May, so I didn't realize this was even an issue. We're web first, so I see this as a big issue for us in print.

(Kevin and Erica, if you have any advice about the Total CMS switch, I'd love to hear it. We moved our website to Blox CMS last May, but we're just now bringing in our print side.)

Email me if you wanna talk about CMS shenanigans! e.smith@pilotonline.com.

Sure, feel free to loop me in to any discussions with Erica. kevin.cox@galvnews.com

At Jon Winters' suggestion, I just put this in as a feature request. Figured I'd tack it on here as part of the posting process when feature requests are made.

We are experimenting with Hosted Blox CMS and writing back to our site from print (we previously broke the link). It would be nice if we could trim for web. So if we change a day of the week for print, it doesn't affect web. Or if we explain what was in a hyperlink for print purposes, that can be left off for web.

We would like to be able to put text in notes mode beyond the article body field. This would include: summaries, photo captions, infoboxes (all related content), description fields in other types of assets, etc.

) What problem(s) does this idea solve? Why do you need this idea implemented? Provide as many problems or use cases as possible.

We are liking the idea of print edits making it back to web to avoid correcting things in two places, but we don't like that everything we do for print is affecting web. We are using the print trim option to cut stories, but this addresses a separate issue.

2) How often would you use this feature?

Daily, with all assets in print.

3) How many people in your organization would use this feature?

It will be useful for our designers and copy editors (10-15)

Welcome to the group of folks eagerly anticipating this feature! This one's a year old. Kevin turned in a version before that.

I was told it's close, but a customer ticket would help move it along. We'll see ;)

Yep, that sounds like our drinking game!
